Panther Driver Turned Top Lap of 165.494 mph During Thursday Test

RICHMOND, Va. (June 22, 2006) -- This weekend the Panther Pack return to one of their favorite tracks, and Richmond International Raceway's 0.75-mile oval also happens to be a place where driver Vitor Meira has enjoyed a great deal of success. Meira led 40 laps at RIR last year before he was collected in an accident with fellow Brazilian Tony Kanaan.

Vitor finished second here in 2004, one of five career runner-up finishes. Meira participated in the day's open test and finished with a top speed of 165.494 mph, 16.3148 seconds. The Panther team turned a total of 100 laps.

For Panther, 2004 marked the only year that the No. 4 car left Richmond without a Top Five finish. After a second place result in the team's first run here, Sam Hornish, Jr. won in the team's second attempt at RIR in 2002. Tomas Scheckter finished 4th here last season.

Vitor Meira Quote:

"We're trying to find our keys for qualifying; which is making sure you're flat around at least turns three and four. If we can do that, we'll be OK. In the race you want to make sure the rear of the car is solid, because it is so busy on the track. This place is like an oval when you qualify, but once all the cars are there during the race it's much more like a road course. Panther has won here in the past and that's what we're looking to do this weekend."
