Matsuura on Row Four at Richmond after Qualifying Rainout

Kosuke Matsuura will line up eighth in tomorrow evening's SunTrust Indy Challenge after the cancellation of qualifying this afternoon at Richmond International Raceway due to rain. Matsuura, who was fourth fastest in the first 45-minute practice session and eighth quickest overall today, was one of eight drivers unable to take to the track for a qualifying run due to the inclement weather. The grid was set by combined practice times from today.

This is Matsuura's career best starting position on the challenging and fast .75-mile oval as he prepares for his third career race at Richmond. He claimed his best result to date at Richmond in 2005, finishing ninth. Matsuura is currently eighth in the point standings on the heels of four top-eight finishes to date this season.

Kosuke Matsuura, #55 Panasonic ARTA Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"I think today we did a really good job. It was sad that we lost qualifying because of the rain. Our basic car balance, handling and speed are pretty good. I am very excited for the race tomorrow. Compared to the last two years here, we improved a lot. This Dallara chassis has a lot of mechanical grip and we have figured out how to make a good setup and make the car fast. We are right there. Tomorrow, Scott [Sharp] and I will be fighting for the front, and I'm looking forward to finishing in the top three."
