TrimSpa to sponsor Ray for 2003 IndyCar Series season
INDIANAPOLIS, Thursday, May 22, 2003 -- TrimSpa, a leading weight-loss supplement, will serve as the primary sponsor of the car driven by 1999 IRL IndyCarTM Series champion Greg Ray in the series during the 2003 season, company officials announced May 22.
The sponsorship starts at the 87th Indianapolis 500 on May 25. Ray, co-owner of the new Access Motorsports, will start 14th at Indy in the No. 13 TrimSpa Special Panoz G Force/Honda/Firestone. He won the MBNA Pole for the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing" in 2000.
TrimSpa's relationship with the Access team started when team co-owner Lee Mroszak lost 100 pounds using TrimSpa. Mroszak put the company logo on Ray's car, Ray's race clothing and Web site even before TrimSpa became a sponsor.
"Now that it's official, I can't tell you how happy we are," Mroszak said, "Hopefully Greg and the team can finish as strongly as I have."
TrimSpa, a division of Goen Technologies Corporation, is a leader in weight loss supplements. The company is based in Cedar Knolls, N.J Access co-owner Mroszak joins a growing list of those involved in sports who have lost weight with TrimSpa. Others include former NFL lineman Bubba Paris and professional golfer John Daly.
"It never ceases to amaze me how many of these stories are out there, and after being approached by Lee and hearing his story, I thought if he felt so strongly about TrimSpa, certainly the CEO should believe, as well," said Alex Goen, founder and CEO of TrimSpa. "Adding a sponsorship to the Indy Racing League and a cornerstone property like the Indianapolis 500 seemed like a logical step for us.
"You couldn't ask for a better driver than Greg Ray. He represents everything TrimSpa stands for: confidence, strength, empowerment and making dreams come true. We look forward to great things from Greg and his team as we move deeper into the season, and what better place to kick things off than the Indy 500."
