Radisson 200 Pikes Peak International Raceway Fountain, Colorado Race Report - Sunday, June 27, 1999
Race Report: Kelley Racing drivers Scott Sharp and Mark Dismore finished the Radisson 200 at Pikes Peak International Raceway in 8th and 21st place respectively. Sharp, driving the #8 Delphi Automotive Systems car, started on the grid in 17th position and battled throughout the race to break the top ten. Sharp's best lap speed was 164.219 mph, and his performance today has climbed the Delphi team up to fifth place (tied with driver Kenny Brack) in the Pep Boys IRL driver point standings.
Teammate Mark Dismore, in the #28 MCI WorldCom car, began the day in 3rd position on the grid but a loss of front brakes caused the car to turn into the wall during the MCI WorldCom team's first routine pit stop. The car sustained damages to the nose and gearbox. The MCI WorldCom crew made repairs to the car, and on lap 132, Dismore returned to the track in an effort to pick-up points in the championship. Dismore is currently tied in seventh place with driver Davey Hamilton in the Championship with a total of 107 points.
Quotes on the race: #8 Scott Sharp, Delphi Automotive Systems/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear car Finished in 8th place; 5th place in points: "It was a really hard day out there today. The car wasn't quite where we wanted it to be. We made changes throughout the race, and the Delphi car was running pretty well at the end. We picked up some points, but we didn't finish where we wanted to. Overall, we had a decent day considering we had to make some adjustments. The Delphi team had great pit stops, which helped me stay in the top 10. We really need to focus on the upcoming races. There's only five left, and we need to focus on each race and get as many points possible."
#28 Mark Dismore, MCI WorldCom/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear car Finished in 21st place; 7th place in points: "We ran the fastest race lap out there. We had a great race car today. The MCI WorldCom team did a fantastic job with the set-up. We had an incident in the pits and we had to go back to the garage and make a few repairs. The car sustained damage to the nose and the gearbox. The MCI WorldCom team did a great job getting me back out on the track in an effort to pick-up a few points. I'm disappointed, but that's racing. We have five races left in the season and I feel we need to key in on the championship. Getting points will be crucial from here on out."
Next action for Kelley Racing will be Round Seven of the Pep Boys Indy Racing League Championship at the Atlanta Motor Speedway scheduled for Saturday night, July 17.
