Indy Racing League - Round 7 of 15
Radisson Indy 225 at Pikes Peak International Raceway, Fountain, Colo.
June 15-16, 2002

Race Distance: 225 miles (225 laps on the one-mile tri-oval).

Firehawks Supplied: The Firestone Racing program brought 1,236 tires to Pikes Peak International Raceway for the Radisson Indy 225, enough to provide seven sets per car as determined by Indy Racing League officials. The tires were produced at the Bridgestone/Firestone Technical Center in Akron, Ohio, and feature a brand new compound.

The Ray Way: Greg Ray has earned four wins and two poles at PPIR, all on Firestone Firehawk racing radials, establishing an IRL performance record at the one-mile oval. Ray returns to PPIR seeking more success and facing tough competition from a very impressive field of IRL drivers - all driving on Firestone tires for only the third time in seven IRL races conducted at the track since 1997.

Quote from Firestone Motorsports Executive Director Al Speyer: "With Firestone as the exclusive tire of the Indy Racing League, we want to make sure every event sees impressive performance from the Firehawk racing radials. For this weekend's Radisson Indy 225 at PPIR, we've developed a new tire, providing evidence of our commitment to give these drivers the fruits of our continuing research and development efforts. The tire features a proven construction and a compound never before used that we expect will work very well on this demanding one-mile oval. We've enjoyed much success at previous visits to PPIR, and we're confident the new Firehawk we're rolling out for this weekend's event will give drivers the grip, durability and consistency needed for more impressive racing action."

This Weekend's Event: This weekend will mark the 63rd consecutive IRL event for the Firestone Racing program. Firestone is the only tire brand to have appeared in all IRL races conducted thus far, and at every IRL contest in 2002, Firestone will present a $10,000 bonus check to the driver leading at the lap number coinciding with the number of IRL events conducted. For leading at lap 62 in the June 8 event at Texas Motor Speedway, Kelley Racing driver Scott Sharp will receive a $10,000 check during pre-race ceremonies for the Radisson Indy 225.
