FOUNTAIN, Colo., Friday, June 14, 2002 -- Three popular drivers in the Indy Racing League --Mark Dismore, Anthony Lazzaro and Robby McGehee -- will return to the series at the Radisson Indy 225 on June 16 at Pikes Peak International Raceway.
Dismore, from Greenfield, Ind., returns to the series with two-time league champion Team Menard. He will drive the No. 2 Menards/Johns Manville/Pittsburgh Paints Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone, replacing Raul Boesel.
This will be Dismore's second start of the season. He finished 32nd in the Indianapolis 500 in the No. 99 Grill 2 Go Sam Schmidt Motorsports Indy Car Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone.
Dismore, who has one career victory, finished third in the IRL standings in 1999 and fifth in 2000.
Lazzaro, from Acworth, Ga., will return to the No. 99 BG Products Sam Schmidt Motorsports Racing Special Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone. Rookie Lazzaro has made three starts in the car this season, with a best finish of ninth at the 20th Anniversary Grand Prix of Miami at Homestead-Miami Speedway and the Firestone Indy 225 at Nazareth Speedway.
Richie Hearn will move from the No. 99 car, which he drove at the Boomtown 500 on June 8 at Texas Motor Speedway, to the No. 20 BG Products/Western Union/Sam Schmidt Motorsports Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone. Hearn has made three starts this season with Schmidt's team, with a best finish of sixth in the Indianapolis 500. Hearn also made one start for A.J. Foyt Racing at Nazareth.
McGehee, from St. Louis, will drive the No. 54 Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone fielded by Beck Motorsports. 1999 Indianapolis 500 Bank One Rookie of the Year McGehee will make his fifth start of the season at Pikes Peak. He started the first four races this year with Cahill Racing.
This will be the first start of 2002 for Indianapolis-based Beck Motorsports, which has fielded cars in the IRL since its debut season in 1996.
The Radisson Indy 225 starts at 4 p.m. (EDT) and will be televised live on ABC.
