CURB/Agajanian/Boat Indy Racing team finishes 14th at the Radisson Indy 225.
It was, by all accounts, a remarkable comeback. After starting from the back of the field, Billy Boat was in first place by Lap 34. However, a victory just wasn't in the cards for the CURB/Agajanian/Boat Indy as vacillating weather played havoc with the race all day.
When the race started just after 2:00pm MDT, skies were sunny and the temperature was around 73 F. But 35 minutes later, officials threw a red flag due to rain and hail on the racetrack. Less than an hour later, action resumed because the heat, sun and humidity helped to quickly dry the track. Conditions continued to fluctuate between hot sun and intermittent delays throughout the remainder of the race, due to rain of varying quantities.
As Billy Boat had mentioned previously, the weather seriously affects the Pikes Peak International Raceway and although they made valiant attempts and tried various strategic tactics, the CURB Records team was never really able to keep up.
Said Billy Boat, "The CURB/Agajanian/Boat Indy Racing team worked hard all day, it just didn't seem to be our weekend this weekend. We never really seemed to be able to stay on track. Our car wasn't that bad in the race, we just seemed to be a step behind. All we can do is continue to work hard, plug away, get turned around and get the CURB Records car to the front."
Although the #98 qualified for a 6th place start, because of a disagreement in the interpretation of a rule, Billy Boat had to start the Radisson Indy 225 from the back of the field.
Pole winner Gil de Ferran captured his first career-win in Indy Racing League competition, passing the checkered flag just in front of teammate Helio Castroneves and Felipe Giaffone.
The next race is the Richmond Indy 250 on Saturday, June 29 from the Richmond International Raceway.
