Brack, Team Rahal continue to learn at Phoenix test.
PHOENIX, Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003 -- Kenny Brack, who won the 1998 IRL IndyCar Series title and the 1999 Indianapolis 500, continued to go to school with the Dallara chassis and Honda engine during testing Jan. 28 at Phoenix International Raceway.
Brack tested a Pioneer/Miller Lite Dallara/Honda/Firestone for Team Rahal on Jan. 27-28 on the 1-mile oval.
"This was just our second test with the new car, and we are learning a lot," Brack said. "We had to adjust a few things on the first day, but Tuesday was better."
Team Rahal is in a unique situation as it enters its first year of IndyCar Series competition. Brack drove for the team from 2000-01, but it was in the CART series and with different equipment. Prior to that, Brack spent three seasons in the IRL from 1997-99, amassing four wins. Now the team and driver are back together, trying to learn as much as they can about IndyCar Series chassis and engines that are new for 2003.
"We know we aren't where we want to be just yet, but we are moving in the right direction," Brack said. "Plus our crew is back working together again, and everyone is picking up more information the Dallara and the new Honda engine. I am impressed with the Honda people and their determination. They know they have work to do, and this is their first year in the IRL. We learned quite a bit here at Phoenix, and we have some good parameters to start with when we come back for the Test in the West next week."
Also on Jan. 28, Tony Kanaan and Andretti Green Racing finished two days of testing their Dallara/Honda/Firestone at PIR.
Both drivers and teams will take part in the Indy Racing League's eighth annual Test in the West, which will take place Feb. 3-4 at California Speedway and Feb. 6-8 at Phoenix.
The IndyCar Series season starts with the Toyota Indy 300 on March 2 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The Copper World Indy 200 will be March 23 at Phoenix International Raceway. Both races will be broadcast live on ABC and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network.
