AVONDALE, Ariz. (March 22, 2003) - Team Menard's Jaques Lazier was the fastest Chevrolet driver in MBNA pole qualifying for the Purex Dial Indy 200 at Phoenix International Raceway today. Lazier qualified 12th with a 20.6588 second, 174.26 mph lap in the No. 2 Menards/Johns Manville Dallara/Chevy/Firestone car.

"I'm satisfied," Lazier said. "We slowed down a little bit, but I think that was primarily from the heat of the day. I am just happy with the progress we've made at Team Menard. The result we had at Miami is not indicative of what this team is capable of. We came out here right after Miami and did some testing. I think we have a good understanding of the Dallara chassis now. We have a lot of things in the works. We will just continue to improve and make gains."

The Purex Dial Indy 200 starts at 3:30 p.m. (EST) Sunday and will be televised live on ABC.

One of the founding teams of the IRL IndyCar Series, Team Menard has two championships, 10 wins and an all-time record of 24 pole positions to its credit. Owned by John Menard, the Indianapolis-based team is supported by Menards, Johns Mansville, Chevrolet, Menard Engine Group, Dallara, Firestone and Menard Cheever Technologies.
