The Thanksgiving holiday has given way to December and it's getaway time for one Indy Racing League stalwart.
Pennzoil Panther Racing and Tomas Scheckter are heading for the reconfigured Phoenix International Raceway oval to get a head start for the March race.
A two-day test is on tap later this week in the desert, where turns two, three and four have changed dramatically from the configuration employed earlier this year. Thus far, all reports have been positive, particularly about the tunnel at turn 4.
The Panther troops then venture even farther west for a photo shoot one day and test the next at California Speedway in Fontana.
Meanwhile, equipment from the Panther Menards IRL Infiniti Pro Series entry fielded by Panther Racing for 2003 champion Mark Taylor is heading to another end of town, as Canadian Marty Roth sets up shop on Gasoline Alley to field his own team. He ran the 2003 campaign with Brian Stewart Racing, which has helped promote local talent.
The giant Performance Racing Industry show takes over the Indianapolis area beginning Wednesday and ending Saturday night. "I hate to miss it," noted Mike Griffin, Panther Racing co-owner. Racers from around the world will be on site at the Convention Center downtown and functions are being held around the area.
