Pagan Racing Prepares for 1999 Season
Indianapolis, IN (December 17, 1998) Pagan Racing didn't participate in the recent Pep Boys Indy Racing League open test at Walt Disney World Speedway last week instead opting to continue preparations for the upcoming 1999 season.
"We're doing everything we can to be at Orlando," stated team owner Allan Pagan, regarding the season opening TransWorld Diversified Services Indy 200 at Walt Disney World Speedway. "Right now we're concentrating on trying to find sponsorship for Orlando and the rest of the season. Indy's the primary target, but we have to find the funds and be ready when we get there."
Update kits for the team's two chassis have yet to arrive from the Dallara factory. Jack Pegues, Pagan Racing's team manager said the Dallara update kits are expected any minute. "We haven't physically received anything, as far as parts and pieces, but we have received the necessary drawings and specs, and the cars are prepared and waiting," said Pegues.
"The holes have been drilled in the side of the tub to hold the new radiator inlet box, which have been changed to enhance driver safety. When all the parts arrive at the team's Indianapolis shop it will take some time to fit a car with all the updates, but we're ready."
Pagan Racing hopes to test the new update package sometime in January. "Before going to any race, we'd like to get some track time on the new update kit and the driver," said Pegues. "Right now we're working on getting the cars race ready as well as organizing the shop so we can work more efficiently. I can assure you, we haven't been sitting around during the off season. There have been a lot of changes, all of which will make us more competitive."
Pagan Racing expects to make an announcement very soon regarding their driver for the 1999 Pep Boys Indy Racing League season. Allan Pagan expressed some surprise at the driver situation, "It's amazing there are so many really good drivers out there without rides. Certainly it's better for us, and for sponsors, because these guys are race winners."
The TransWorld Diversified Services Indy 200 at the Walt Disney World Speedway in Orlando is the opening round of the 1999 Pep Boys Indy Racing League series. The race will be held on Sunday, January 24, 1999 and will be televised live on ABC TV.
