Nazareth, PA (August 5, 2004) - The weather held off for most of the day at Nazareth Speedway during a final IRL IndyCar Series test in preparation for the Firestone Indy 225 in three weeks August 27-29th. Both Toyota and Honda IRL IndyCars Series cars screamed around the Speedway starting at 9:00 AM until around 4:00 PM when it started to rain. The teams worked today to test their engines, find the right lines and learn the 'ins and outs' of the tricky one-mile oval, all hoping to find the right solution to bring them into the last turn at Nazareth Speedway on August 29th - the turn into Gatorade Victory Lane.
"I am going to miss this place. I've heard about Nazareth (Speedway) since I was a child and I've really enjoyed coming here," said Helio Castroneves, defending 2003 Firestone Indy 225 champion and driver of the #3 Marlboro Team Penske Toyota. "I think a lot of us will miss coming here. I feel good about testing and hope to win the last race."
Castroneves tested the historic one-mile oval with teammate Sam Hornish Jr., who was only able to test this morning due to car damage when he made contact with the wall on the frontstretch late in the morning. Hornish was not injured.
Other Toyota driver that tested at Nazareth Speedway today included, Darren Manning, #10 Target Chip Ganassi Racing, Tora Tagaki, #12 MoNunn Racing Pioneer, and Scott Sharp #8 Kelley Racing Delphi. Buddy Rice, #15 Rahal Letterman Racing and both Andretti Green Racing drivers, Dario Franchitti and Dan Wheldon, also tested their Hondas in preparation for the Firestone Indy 225.
