Team 7-Eleven's Kanaan fifth fastest in practice for Sunday's Firestone Indy 225.

NAZARETH, Pa. (Aug. 21, 2003) -- Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan posted the fifth fastest lap Friday during a pair of practices for Sunday's running of the Firestone Indy 225 at Nazareth Speedway.

Kanaan, who enters the race as the Indy Racing League (IRL) IndyCar Series points leader, spent both sessions working on a race setup to apply to the #11 Team 7- Eleven Dallara/Honda/Firestone.

Tomas Scheckter led today's practice with a speed of 169.888 miles per hour. His teammate Scott Dixon was second quick with a speed of 168.956 miles per hour. Gil de Ferran rounded out the top-three at 168.050 miles per hour.

Kanaan will turn his attention to qualifying during Saturday's morning practice, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. (EDT). Qualifying is slated for 11:30 a.m. (EDT) on the one- mile Nazareth oval.

TONY KANAAN, #11 TEAM 7-ELEVEN DALLARA/HONDA/FIRESTONE:

"We're not real happy with our car right now. We're trying some different things, but haven't really found everything we need right now. We need to have a consistent car all the way around the race track. We worked all day on race setup because Sunday is when we really need to be good."

KIM GREEN, PRESIDENT, ANDRETTI GREEN RACING:

"We focused primarily today on race setup, but we're not happy with the race car at the moment. Is it the car? Is it the track conditions? Is it the heat? The challenge is that tomorrow is supposed to be a lot cooler and race day is supposed to be a lot cooler, so we should pick up a lot more aerodynamic downforce from that standpoint. We've got some work to do. But, I think that is also the beauty of having three race cars working together on the program. They all try different things -- some good and some bad. Our engineers will sit down this evening and really sift through all that and come up with a good baseline setup."
