Consistency has Sharp Confident for Nashville Night Race
The IndyCar Series heads to Nashville Superspeedway this weekend for the final night race on the 2005 schedule, the Firestone Indy 200, an event that marks the halfway point of the season. Scott Sharp has displayed a solid performance in his first year with Delphi Fernandez Racing. The veteran talent came close to scoring his first win since 2003 with a second-place finish in Japan, and has collected five top-seven results -- including three top-five finishes -- in eight races to date this season.
Three costly dnf's [did not finish] as a victim of on-track incidents has Sharp sitting seventh in the point standings, but only 18 points outside of the top-five in a tight championship battle. For Sharp, it is not a question of if but when the #8 Delphi machine will return to the Winner's Circle. He will be looking to accomplish that job this weekend as he prepares to make his fifth career start at Nashville Superspeedway.
* Will be making his fifth IndyCar Series start at Nashville
* Claimed best result at Nashville in 2001, finishing fifth
* Recorded best starting position at Nashville of 11th in 2002
* Currently sits seventh in the championship standings, only 18 points outside the top five
* Posted five top-seven results to date this season with a best finish of second in Japan
* Best qualifying effort to date this season was third at Japan and Indianapolis
* Will be preparing for his 107th IndyCar Series start and record 99th consecutive start
Scott Sharp, #8 Delphi Panoz/Honda/Firestone:
"I'm really excited for the Nashville race. This is a great market for the IRL, and the fans are very supportive. When it gets to race time in Nashville, things always get crazy. There is lots of action, lots of wheel-to-wheel dicing - everyone always is going for the same piece of real estate. The Delphi Fernandez team has a lot of momentum, and we plan to go to Nashville and challenge for the win."
