Panther Driver Puts Newly-Sponsored Car in Fourth Row
NASHVILLE, Ten. (July 14, 2006) -- Fresh off an announcement that his team has a new associate sponsor for the remainder of the 2006 season, Revive Panther Racing driver Vitor Meira qualified seventh for the Firestone Indy 200 at Nashville Superspeedway on Friday.
Meira's quickest lap of the day was 200.819 mph, 23.3046 seconds. His second lap was nearly identical at 23.3049 seconds.
The starting position is Vitor's second best of the season, just one spot shy of where he started at Indianapolis, Richmond and Kansas. The 29-year-old Brazilian finished second at Richmond and third at Kansas, which gave him four Top Five finishes in his eight starts with the team. He is currently on a streak of seven consecutive Top Ten finishes, the longest active run among IndyCar Series drivers.
Meira led 113 laps at Nashville in 2004, the most laps he's ever led in one event. He finished 12th in that race, his best finish at the track. Vitor was involved in an accident with Alex Barron last year and finished 16th.
The Firestone Indy 200 will be held on Saturday, July 15. The race will be broadcast live on ESPN at 9 p.m. (EDT) with additional coverage provided by the IMS Radio Network and XM Satellite Radio Channel 145.
Vitor Meira Quote:
"This is why we wanted to start our qualification run on the second time by. We knew that if we would have gone the third time by we would have lost a little bit of speed. I am excited about this weekend and I'm excited for Panther and our new sponsor Revive. Even the colors match, because Revive has used the bright orange colors too. This is only the beginning of a long relationship and what's going to be a successful one."
