Mechanical Ends Strong Run for Matsuura
Kosuke Matsuura was uninjured after a late-race crash in the Firestone Indy 200 at Nashville Superspeedway this evening. Matsuura, who started 12th , worked his way up to eighth at the halfway mark of the race. He was running strongly in sixth position with 37 laps to go when a mechanical problem on the #55 Panasonic machine sent Matsuura into the Turn Three wall.
Matsuura and the Super Aguri Fernandez Racing team will visit the historic Milwaukee Mile circuit next weekend for the ABC Supply Company -- AJ Foyt 225. Sunday's 225-lap race will get underway at 1:45 pm ET and will be carried by ESPN.
Kosuke Matsuura, #55 Panasonic ARTA Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"Entering Turn Three, something in the rear suspension failed and I spun. It is really disappointing. I was running quite strong. I think the Super Aguri Fernandez Racing team did a great job this weekend and I was running well. I think I could have finished in the top six pretty easily, but something failed and I couldn't do anything."
Chris Finch, Race Engineer:
"It was a tough break for us. We gambled a little bit, caught a couple lucky yellows and were looking pretty strong. We were pushing hard to go to the end on fuel and it looked like we were going to make it. I know a couple guys around us still had one stop to make. I think we were racing for probably at least third at a minimum. I'm not sure what happened yet. We need to go back to the shop and take a look at it. Kosuke did a great job in the race. He kept pushing hard and kept saving fuel just like we told him. The guys did a fantastic job this week. We'll evaluate it back at the shop and go on to Milwaukee."
