Meira Finishes Milwaukee Practice Third Quick

Former Pole Sitter Shows Speed on First Practice Day

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (July 21, 2006) -- Vitor Meira didn't waste any time getting comfortable with the tricky one-mile oval at the Milwaukee Mile. The 2004 pole sitter finished the day third on the speed chart in preparations for Sunday's ABC Supply Co./ A.J. Foyt 225.

Meira's fast lap of the day was 169.061 mph, 21.6135 seconds.

There will be another practice session tomorrow before qualifications. Meira has started five of the last six races inside the Top Ten. His best qualification effort of the season has been sixth place, where he's started three times -- Indianapolis, Richmond and Kansas.

Vitor has the most Top Ten finishes (eight) of any driver this season in the IndyCar Series.

Vitor Meira Quote:

"This was a great day for us. We were confident coming into the weekend that the Revive Honda was going to be powerful. It is important for us to be careful and analyze the day only versus ourselves. It was an open day and everybody was doing different things. We improved every time that we went out and that's what proves to us that it was a good day. We've still got plenty of work to do and we're looking forward to the rest of the weekend."
