Matsuura to Start 15th in Milwaukee

Kosuke Matsuura turned his best lap of The Milwaukee Mile race weekend during qualifying this afternoon for the ABC Supply Company -- AJ Foyt 225. Unfortunately, hampered by the gearing on the #55 Panasonic ARTA Dallara, Matsuura's time was only good enough for 15th position on the grid -- 0.4366 seconds off of pole position. The result does mark Matsuura's best qualifying to date on the challenging one-mile oval. He started 20th in both 2004 and 2005.

Currently 10th in the championship standings and embroiled in a tight points battle, Matsuura will be looking for maximum points in tomorrow's 225-lap sprint. He recorded his best finish to date at The Milwaukee Mile in 2004 with a 10th-place drive, and finished 11th last year.

Kosuke Matsuura, #55 Panasonic ARTA Dallara/Honda/Firestone:

"I'm disappointed because we should have had a better time. We took off a little bit of drag and went with a little longer gear [after the practice session], but it didn't work. I was flat out but something was definitely missing. The times are pretty close and the race is going to be a lot different from practice and qualifying times. A lot is going to be happening in the race and, with some good luck, hopefully we will have a good result this weekend."
