ABC Supply Co. Inc./A.J. Foyt Indy 225
The Milwaukee Mile - West Allis, Wis.
June 2-3, 2007 - Round 6 of 17
Race Distance: 225 miles/362.1 km (225 laps on the 1-mile/1.609-km oval).
Television Broadcast: Live - Sunday, June 3, at 4:00 p.m. EDT on ABC.
Firestone Firehawk Race Tires Supplied: 764 dry-condition slicks.
Each car receives eight sets (32 total tires) for the race weekend.
Firestone engineers elected to bring the exact same tire to The Milwaukee Mile that raced here last year. In that event, the Firehawks proved their durability when the lead-lap cars put 85 laps on a single set in the last stint, and the fastest lap of the race came on a set of tires that had already run 78 laps.
Quote from Al Speyer, Executive Director, Firestone Racing: "An annual rite of passage returns as we make our trek to The Milwaukee Mile the weekend immediately after the Indianapolis 500. It is fitting, as this is a track that has almost as much tradition associated with it as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Last year we saw a great race here, with drivers able to run confidently and make passes all over the track - high, low and in the middle. We expect the same confidence in our Firestone Firehawks this year since we're bringing the 2006 spec that performed so well."
Firestone Performance Award: This $10,000 prize commemorates Firestone's status as the only tire manufacturer to have participated in every IndyCar Series race, and it is given to the driver leading the lap number corresponding to the cumulative number of races in series history. The ABC Supply Co. Inc./A.J. Foyt Indy 225 is the 140th IndyCar Series race, so the Firestone Performance Award will go to the driver who leads lap 140.
