Firestone Tire Performance Summary: Firestone Racing engineers elected to bring the softest road course tire specification currently produced, because Mid-Ohio is a relatively short, twisty circuit that requires maximum grip. These are the same tires that were used at the open test here in June, and the weather today was quite similar to the day of the test, so there were no surprises. The tires performed well, with the top drivers taking fuel only on their last pit stops.
From Scott Dixon, Target Chip Ganassi Racing Dallara/ Honda/Firestone: "It's fantastic - great for our team and great for the championship. The Firestone tires were very good, very consistent. We actually ran them for two stints nearly on that last stop, so they were lasting a long time. I had no trouble with tires at all; it was just more about holding the other people off!"
From Dale Harrigle, Senior Project Engineer, Firestone Racing: "Congratulations to Scott Dixon and Target Chip Ganassi Racing on their third straight win. It's quite an accomplishment, especially considering the high level of competition this year. We brought our softest road course tire to Mid-Ohio, and it is the same tire we brought here last month for the open test. The tires performed well, but you can be sure that we will take the information we learned from this inaugural IndyCar Series event back to the lab as we consider which tire specification to bring here next year. These tires were good, but we are continually striving to make them even better."
