Sharp Finishes Sixth in Michigan

With solid driving and some good pit strategy, Scott Sharp brought home his seventh top-10 finish of the season with a sixth-place run in the Firestone Indy 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Sharp, who started 13 th , battled both a tight and loose race car in the early stages of the 200-lap race but as the team continued to dial in the #8 Delphi Dallara, Sharp was running solidly in the top 10 after the halfway mark. The result is Sharp's fifth consecutive top-10 finish at the superspeedway in his five career starts. He is now 11th in the championship standings, only one point out of 10 th and 15 points out of seventh place.

Sharp and the Delphi Fernandez Racing team will have a weekend off before heading to Kentucky Speedway for the Kentucky Indy 300 on August 13 th where Sharp is the defending race winner.

Scott Sharp - #8 Delphi Dallara/Honda/Firestone:

"It was a good day, a good finish. The entire Delphi Fernandez team just did a really good job and I think we made the most out of what we had today. Overall, it seems that we were a little down on speed and were sliding around a bit. J.D. [John Dick, race engineer] and the crew made some good changes to the car and got us better and better. Tom [Anderson, team owner/managing director] made a good call to short fill the car to get us out of a pack that we were faster than but stuck in. Once we had smooth sailing, we were able to reel in some people and really get pulled along with some good drafts."

Tom Anderson, Owner/Managing Director:

"It was a good finish today for the Delphi Fernandez team. Scott did a great job. There was a lot of traffic out there today with everyone pretty much running the same times, so it came down to track position. We were able to do a little different strategy later in the race and counted on the used Firestone tires to run with the newer tires and they did a good job. We had plenty of power today from the Honda engine, and I'm really pleased with the performance and reliability that we are getting."
