Sharp Will Start 13th in Michigan
Scott Sharp will make his fifth IndyCar Series career start at Michigan International Speedway from the seventh row of the grid after qualifying this afternoon for the Firestone Indy™ 400. Sharp, who was fourth quickest in the first one-hour practice session with a lap of 214.741 mph, was unable to match that earlier pace in qualifying.
Sharp has finished in the top 10 in each of his four starts on the two-mile superspeedway, recording his best result of fourth in 2003. Tomorrow's 200-lap race will mark his 126th IndyCar Series career start and record 118th consecutive start.
Scott Sharp - #8 Delphi Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"That is certainly not the speed we wanted. We came out of the box great and I believe we have a really great race car. All we did the first session was work on race trim, and I could really put the car wherever I wanted and ran well in the turbulence behind other cars. I think we are in good shape for tomorrow, but we ran a time in that first practice that we haven't been able to get near in more of a qualifying mode. We are a couple of tenths off where we were this morning and that has us scratching our heads a bit, but the Delphi Fernandez team will get it. You can qualify anywhere here and, if you can run multiple grooves and run in traffic, you'll be fine in the race."
