Past Experience, Confidence Fuels Matsuura Heading to Michigan

The IndyCar Series returns to superspeedway racing action this weekend with the Firestone Indy 400 at Michigan International Speedway, the last of four races held in the month of July. Kosuke Matsuura has displayed strong form on the two-mile oval but has been unable to reap the rewards after being hampered by on-track incidents in two previous career starts at Michigan. To date, his 2004 starting position of second at Michigan remains his career best.

Following two DNF's [did not finish] in the past two events at Nashville and Milwaukee, Matsuura is looking bounce back at Michigan as he prepares to make his sixth career superspeedway start. He is currently 13th in the championship standings, 12 points shy of the top 10.

Kosuke Matsuura At-A-Glance:

* Will be making his third career start at Michigan International Speedway

* Claimed his best qualifying effort to date at Michigan in 2004, starting second

* Best finish to date at Michigan was 17th in 2004

* Qualified 12th at Michigan last year and was credited with 16th after being collected in a multi-car incident

Kosuke Matsuura, #55 Panasonic ARTA Dallara/Honda/Firestone:

"I really like racing at Michigan. We have been strong there, but we couldn't show it with a good result in the end. I am very confident for this weekend. It is a long race and a lot of things can happen and, hopefully, we can avoid trouble this year. I want to end the season strong."
