Keohane secures IndyCar test

Ireland's top international racing driver Michael Keohane has secured an IndyCar test with race winning IRL team Dreyer & Reinbold Racing. The 24-year-old former British F3 race winner, from West Cork, will test the team's Chevrolet powered Dallara at the Texas Motor Speedway next week (21/22 Sept) for two days and in doing so will become the first Irish driver to sample one of the high speed oval racers.

Keohane will visit the team's Indianapolis headquarters later today (Monday, 13 Sept) for a seat fitting in the 650bhp IndyCar having already spent the weekend as their guest during the latest round of the IndyCar Series at Chicagoland Speedway, Chicago, in preparation for the Texas test. The Texas Motor Speedway is a 1.5-mile banked oval where the average speed for last year's pole position lap, set by Gil de Ferran, was 222.864mph.

Speaking ahead of the test Keohane said, 'This is a great opportunity Dreyer & Reinbold Racing have given me and I'm really looking forward to my first run on an oval. The prospect of lapping at an average of 200mph plus is very exciting'. He added, 'I hope that by conducting a good test at Texas Motor Speedway it will help me to secure a drive in the 2005 IndyCar Series. IRL has the Indy 500, one of the world's greatest motor races, and it is one of the races on my To Do List'.

Last November Keohane successfully tested a Champ Car with Dale Coyne Racing at the Sebring circuit in Florida but the talented Irishman lost out on a drive in the series at the last minute.
