Arie Luyendyk Recovering Well After Recent Surgery

Indianapolis, January 4, 1999: Two-time Indianapolis 500 Champion Arie Luyendyk is moving rather slowly this week. The open wheel veteran switched into low gear last Wednesday, December 30, as he underwent surgery to have his gall bladder removed.

The procedure went smoothly and Luyendyk was released from North Scottsdale Memorial Hospital the following day with no complications. Resting comfortably at home, Luyendyk is healing well. "I'm just fine, but maybe a bit lighter. Most people tell me that they feel better after their gall bladders are removed, so I should be feeling great any time now!"

Luyendyk should be back to form in a few weeks and plans to attend the IRL season opener in Orlando on January 24, 1999 as team and sponsor spokesperson for Treadway Racing.
