LONE STAR 500 CHAMPIONSHIP IRL EVENT MOVES TO ABC TELEVISION

FORT WORTH-DALLAS (July 15, 1999) -- ABC Sports will televise the October 17 Lone Star 500 from Texas Motor Speedway, network and Pep Boys Indy Racing League officials announced today.

"This is great news for us," said speedway general manger Eddie Gossage. "We feel FOX Sports Network did a fine job with our June race, but certainly, we are pleased to be moving the Indy Racing League's championship event -- the Lone Star 500 -- to ABC."

FOX Sports Network, who televised seven of the 10 IRL races in 1999, agreed to an early termination of its contract, allowing ABC/ESPN2 to televise the final two events of the season. ESPN2 will televise the next-to-the-last race Sept. 26 from the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

ABC/ESPN and Indianapolis Motor Speedway signed a five-year contract in May, which begins in 2000. ABC/ESPN will carry all Pep Boys Indy Racing League events including the two IRL events scheduled from Texas.
