Accident Eliminates Matsuura in Kentucky

Kosuke Matsuura had an early end to his bid for a top-10 result in the Meijer Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway. Matsuura, who started seventh, ran in the top 10 throughout the opening stages of the 200-lap race. Despite being caught out when a yellow flag fell just after his first pit stop, Matsuura had worked his way back up to 10th . He was in that position when he ran high and made contact in Turn Three on Lap 119. Matsuura was uninjured.

Matsuura and the Super Aguri Fernandez Racing team will return to action on August 27 th for the Infineon Grand Prix of Sonoma.

Kosuke Matsuura, #55 Panasonic ARTA Dallara/Honda/Firestone:

"I was running in the pack and got up on the high side in Turn Three and the car just snapped. I was trying to hang on but couldn't."

Chris Finch, Race Engineer:

"It was bad luck for the #55 guys today. We had a really fast race car. We were running pretty strong at the start. As the race panned out, it looked like it was going to be hard to pass and hung behind Tony [Kanaan] and Ed [Carpenter]. We pitted a little too early and got caught out by that first yellow and that put us back into 11 th place. We kind of recovered and everything was looking good. The car seemed to be running well and it looked like Kosuke got pushed up a little bit going down into [Turn] Three and got his right-side tires in the grey and lost it. It was tough luck. We'll go to Sonoma, put it in road-course trim and see how we fare there."
