Sparta, KY (August 14, 2004)---Kelley Racing and Scott Sharp qualified today for the Belterra Casino Indy 300 to be held tomorrow on the 1.5-mile tri-oval of Kentucky Speedway. Sharp rolled off 9th in the qualifying line and posted a best speed of 212.433 mph/ 25.0808 seconds good for a 16th place starting position. Sunday's 200-lap event is scheduled for a 3:45 p.m. green flag (local time) and will be televised live on ABC.
Scott Sharp -- #8 Delphi/Dallara/Toyota/Firestone--Quote
"No doubt we are a little slower than we want to be but the Delphi team has been working really hard. We had to make a pretty big suspension change after this morning's session which negated a lot of what we had learned during the first session so we were really basing everything off of only the second session. Certainly to pull out the best time of your day is what you strive to do during qualifying so I think we're maximizing the speed we have in the car right now but of course it would always be great to go faster."
*The Belterra Casino Indy 300 will be Sharp's 93rd career start, his 85th consecutive IRL IndyCar start--an IndyCar record-- and his seventh season with Kelley Racing.
* Kentucky Record--In 2003 Sharp started 18th and finished 13th while in 2002, Sharp started 21st and finished fourth. In 2001, he started from the pole and led 105 laps en-route to a second place finish while in 2000, he started 18th and finished 24th due to an engine problem on lap 16.
* Sharp is currently in 14th place in the IndyCar Series points standings with 177 points.
* Sharp's victory in April 2003 at Twin Ring Motegi, Japan was his eighth career victory.
