RACE ADVANCE – 1999 Pep Boys Indy Racing League, Round Nine Colorado Indy 200 / Pikes Peak International Raceway Fountain, Colorado – August 27-29
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (August 23, 1999) – The two-car Kelley Racing team will be returning to Colorado Springs this upcoming weekend for the Colorado Indy 200 at Pikes Peak International Raceway. Drivers Scott Sharp and Mark Dismore are seeking the team’s second win this year and are hoping to move forward in the hunt for the championship crown. This will be the second race of the season at PPIR. Sharp, who is currently fifth in the championship, finished eighth back in June, while teammate Mark Dismore ended the day in 21st place on the 1-mile oval. With three races remaining in the 1999 IRL season, Kelley Racing is focused on winning each race.
Scott Sharp, #8 Delphi Automotive Systems/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear car (5th – Championship Standings): “I’m looking forward to a second shot at Pikes Peak. It’s one of the smoothest 1-mile ovals we run on in our series. I really enjoy the track. Back in June, we had a pretty good race. We had a few problems, but overall, we managed to pull out a top ten finish. It’s a very challenging track for a driver, and we always seem to give the audience a great show. I’m confident in the Delphi team, and I believe we have a good shot at winning. We look to get back into the winner’s circle.”
Mark Dismore, #28 MCI WorldCom/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear car (10th – Championship Standings): “We had a great car at Pikes Peak back in June. We had a few misfortunes, but I’m confident we have a good car. We’ ll just stick with our set-up we’ve been using and hope for the best.”
Tom Kelley, team owner: “We are excited about going back for a second chance at Pikes Peak. This track has been one of Kelley Racing’s toughest obstacles. I think both Mark and Scott and their respective teams have worked hard to put Kelley Racing up front at this track. I would look for us to run well all weekend long.”
