Sharp Looks to Defend Atlanta Title, Dismore Looks for Atlanta Revenge
Heading into the Midas 500, Kelley Racing is hot! Scott Sharp and the Delphi Automotive Systems team have moved into 3rd position in championship points on the strength of a Texas win and a 3rd at Pikes Peak. Sharp heads into Atlanta as the defending race champion, and excited about his team's chances on the sister track to the Texas Motor Speedway. Teammate Mark Dismore is looking for his first win of the season. The OnStar pilot has run strong at both of the past Atlanta races, but a lost wheel weight and a broken header slowed Dismore in 98 and 99, respectively. Dismore, who's always strong on the 1.5 mile tracks, is 5th in points and looking to gain momentum for the last three races.
Scott Sharp #8 Delphi/Futaba/Worldcom Oldsmobile:
"Of course I'm real excited about going back to Atlanta as the defending champion, and even more pumped after the Texas race. The Delphi team is really working well together, and we've made a lot of progress in the points since Indy. Our goal here is to finish in the top 3, and hopefully we'll be there at the end in position to win."
Mark Dismore #28 OnStar/GM BuyPower/Bryant Oldsmobile:
"I'm happy to be done with the one mile tracks; I've always run better at tracks like Atlanta. The last two years our car was real fast in the race, probably the fastest car, so I'm hoping this year it will be just as good. We enjoyed the break between Pikes Peak and Atlanta, but the OnStar team is ready to win these last three races and the championship."
Practice is Thursday (closed to public) and qualifying is Friday (8:00 p.m. EDT on ESPN2). The race is Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. (EDT) on ESPN.
