Honda drivers heat up Kansas Speedway

A hot Independence Day race weekend for the IRL IndyCar Series opened Friday with a pair of practice sessions in near 100-degree temperatures at Kansas Speedway, with championship points leader Tony Kanaan again leading the Honda-powered field.

The Andretti Green driver is one of four Honda drivers to post a top-10 speed today, with Team Rahal's Kenny Brack seventh overall, followed by Andretti Green teammates Bryan Herta in ninth and Dan Wheldon rounding out the top 10.

Single-car qualifying for the IRL IndyCar Series highlights Saturday's scheduled activities, starting at noon EDT. Sunday's 200-lap race starts at 1 p.m. EDT, with live television coverage on ABC.

Tony Kanaan (#11 7-Eleven/Andretti Green Racing Honda) IndyCar championship points leader, third fastest today:

"I feel comfortable, we have a good car. But it's been a competitive season so far, and both Tomas [Scheckter] and Scott [Dixon] are very quick, so we'll have to work hard again this weekend. We went quickly in testing here last month, but conditions have changed - it's incredibly hot here this weekend and that affects everything: the downforce, the tires and the engine. We ran 218 [miles per hour] at the test, but everyone is a bit slower today in the heat."
