Kansas City, KS (July 3, 2004) Red Bull Cheever Racing strives for its first victory of the season in Sunday's Argent Mortgage Indy 300 at Kansas Speedway.

For tomorrow's race, Alex Barron will start 12th on the grid followed by rookie teammate Ed Carpenter in 17th position.

Barron qualified his No. 51 Chevy-powered Dallara at 207.668 mph. The last time Barron lapped the Kansas Speedway was in 2002, where he finished in 8th place.

"We're pretty happy with our qualifying run," the California native said. "We showed up with a good car this weekend and are working hard to prepare for race day."

Carpenter, who has suffered from a string of bad race luck, qualified his No. 52 car at 206.894 mph and knows that a good run is just around the corner.

"We'll put some finishing touches on the car during final practice tomorrow and see how we run with lots of cars on track," the 23-year old rookie said. "We've had a lot of bad luck during races this year, so our goal is to just stay out of trouble and earn some good points."

Each year the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series runs at Kansas Speedway, they never fail to put on a fun and exciting race around the 1.5 mile oval.

"Kansas is slick up high compared to Texas," Barron said. "You're always racing two-wide at this track, so it's a little bit like Russian roulette. You just have to be patient throughout the race and hopefully you'll still be running at the end."

Both drivers had solid runs in the two practice sessions this morning. In the first practice session Carpenter guided the No. 52 car to the 10th best time, while Barron followed with the 11th fastest.

Be sure to check out Red Bull Cheever Racing's drive to the winner's circle tomorrow in the Argent Mortgage Indy 300 on ABC at 11:30 (CDT).
