The Curb Records Team is fourth fastest of the day at Kansas Speedway.
The CURB/Agajanian/Boat Indy Racing team had their best day of the season finishing with the fourth fastest speed of the day at the Kansas Speedway. Billy Boat turned his fast lap of 218.133mph in 25.0856 seconds during the morning practice -- his first time on track with the new Infiniti engine. It was quick enough to make Boat the second fastest driver of the morning, just behind another Infiniti driver, Tomas Scheckter.
A delighted Billy Boat said, "I'm really proud of the great job that everyone on the CURB Records team has done getting this car prepared. They've done a fantastic job getting our engine and our car changed over. We're happy right now; it's great being on the top of the speed charts. We feel that we've got a good package, a good race car. The Infiniti guys have been great and they've probably exceeded our expectations as far as performance. We know that a lot of things can happen, but right now we feel really good going into this weekend. We're just going to take it one step at a time, be patient, and get ready to qualify.
Regrettably, the team's euphoria was short-lived when a fuel pressure problem occurred during the #98's warm-up lap in the second practice session. Said Boat, "Unfortunately it was a short practice session for the CURB Records team. We were all set to do some full-tank running and see how the setup was in the car in race trim when we had a fuel pressure regulator go bad. The problem takes too long to change, so we are done on-track for the day. We'll go back and fix it and we'll be ready to go for practice in the morning and qualifying tomorrow afternoon."
Another driver with Infiniti power, rookie Laurent Redon who registered a lap time of 25.0019 seconds at 218.863 mph, was the fastest of the day.
Practice for the CURB Records team resumes tomorrow, Saturday, July 6 at 10:15am. Qualifying begins at 3:30pm and Billy Boat will be 15th in line for his attempt.
The Ameristar Casino Indy 200 takes place on Sunday, July 7 at 1:00pm EDT and airs live on ABC television. Pre-race coverage begins at 12:30pm EDT and 10-year-old Chad Boat is scheduled for another special appearance.
