Johnny Unser to drive in Samsonite 200

Johnny Unser has been selected by Jonathan Byrd/Cunningham Racing to fill in once again for the injured Mike Groff in this weekend's inaugural Samsonite 200 IRL race at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Colorado. Unser filled in for Groff earlier this month at the TrueValue 500 in Texas, driving the car to a solid top ten finish after the points-leading driver suffered a fractured leg in a practice session crash. Johnny was impressed during that race with the preparation and execution of the Byrd/Cunningham team, and was honored to be chosen to continue with the team this weekend. "This is a great team, and I 'm happy to be with them again" said Unser. " We'll be at somewhat of a horsepower disadvantage compared to the Aurora-powered teams, but I'm excited to be with one of the points-leading teams and we'll do our best to bring home another great finish."

Practice for the Samsonite 200 begins on June 27th with two practice sessions, followed by two more sessions and qualifying on June 28th. The race will be carried live on ABC at 3pm EST on Sunday June 29th. We will have updates throughout practice, qualifying, and the race on our website and posted to our mailing list.
