INDIANAPOLIS, Tuesday, April 30, 2002 -- Indy Racing League veteran Jaques Lazier was released April 30 from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Team Menard driver Lazier, from Alta Loma, Calif., suffered an acute fracture of the T12 vertebra in a two-car accident during the Firestone Indy 225 on April 21 at Nazareth Speedway.

"I'm very anxious to start my rehab," said Lazier. "At the same time, I'm very excited about the second chance I've been given with the incredible work done by all doctors involved, including Dr. Henry Bock and Dr. (Terry) Trammell."

Lazier could be out of competition for up to six months after surgery April 24 to repair a spinal fracture, said orthopedic surgeon Trammell, who performed the surgery at Methodist Hospital.

"I appreciate all the fan support," said Lazier. "I will always bleed Menard blue."

Lazier will wear a brace for eight to 12 weeks, Trammell said.
