Nazareth, PA (August 7, 2003) - Indy Racing League IndyCar Series testing continues next week at Nazareth Speedway in preparation for the Firestone Indy 225, August 24th, with five cars scheduled to take on the one-mile oval next Tuesday and Wednesday, August 12-13.
The test session will be open both days to the public, free of charge. Several grandstand sections will be open on the start/finish line and fans should enter the track through Gate 1, which will be open from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Leading the charge is the Andretti Green Racing tandem of Tony Kanaan and Bryan Herta. Kanaan finds himself in second place in the points standings, only one point out of the lead held by Scott Dixon. Herta is looking to continue his strong runs in relief of injured driver Dario Franchitti and looks to pick-up his second win of the season at Nazareth.
Marlboro Team Penske driver Gil de Ferran comes to Nazareth in great position for the championship, currently sitting in third in the point standings, only three points out of the lead. A win at Nazareth would go a long way in his quest for the Championship.
Kenny Brack will be testing his No. 15 Team Rahal entry as well, marking his first time appearance at Nazareth in the IndyCar Series. Currently fifth in the point standings, Brack will be looking for a good finish with hopes of moving up in the points race.
Rounding out the testing line-up will be Roger Yasukawa, driving for Super Aguri Fernandez Racing. In his first year in the IRL IndyCar Series, Roger currently finds himself in eleventh place in the IRL standings. A good run at Nazareth could vault him into the top ten.
The chase for the IRL IndyCar Series Championship takes center stage at Nazareth Speedway as the fastest growing open-wheel series in the United States returns to the Lehigh Valley, August 22-24. Will the new Andretti Green Racing entry, with car owner and Nazareth native Michael Andretti, dethrone two-time IRL champ Sam Hornish Jr.? Or, will Team Penske drivers Helio Castroneves and Indy 500 winner Gil de Ferran fend off Sarah Fisher, Scott Sharp and Al Unser Jr. for the crown? Find out August 22-24 when Indy racing returns to Nazareth. The action-packed weekend is capped off with the USAC Silver Crown, Sprint Car and Midget Series' races. Tickets for all three days are still available, with Sunday tickets starting at just $40.
