INDIANAPOLIS, Tuesday, April 3, 2001 - Dick Simon Racing filed two entries April 3 for the 85th Indianapolis 500, with veteran Stephan Gregoire named as the driver for one entry.
No driver was named for the second Simon entry.
The 85th Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for May 27. Entries must be postmarked by April 11. All drivers will compete for one of the 33 starting spots in the world's most prestigious auto race.
Gregoire, a native of France living in Indianapolis, will drive the #7 Jack K. Elrod Co./Tokheim/NADA Guides Dallara/Oldsmobile/Firestone, with a G Force/Oldsmobile/Firestone chassis as a backup. Richie Simon, son of veteran team owner Dick Simon, is the chief mechanic.
Dick Simon Racing is the first team this year to enter different chassis for its primary and backup cars in the same entry.
Gregoire will attempt to make his sixth Indianapolis 500 start. His best finish is eighth last year, also in a Dick Simon Racing entry.
The second Simon entry is the #17 Dick Simon Racing car. No chassis, engine or tire was specified for the primary or backup car.
Emmanuel Lupe is the team manager for both Simon entries.
