Cheever Indy Racing Wraps Up Practice With Strong Runs In The #51 Excite@Home Infiniti
Indianapolis, IN (May 20, 2001) - A busy day on the track added to Eddie Cheever Jr.'s confidence for an excellent finish in the upcoming Indianapolis 500. Experimentation with race day set-ups on the #51 Excite@Home Infiniti resulted in some substantial gains in handling throughout an entire fuel run. The team will now focus on Carb Day and making final preparations for the race. Carburetion Day, the final day of practice before the May 27th Indy 500, will take place on Thursday, May 24 from 12 pm to 2 pm.
Today - Eddie Cheever, Jr: #51 Excite@Home Indy Race Car ran 36 laps with a top speed of 219.500.
Eddie Cheever Jr. (on how the team feels going into the race) - "You can never know what anybody else will be running, but we feel we are capable of getting the most out of our engine/tire/car package for 500 miles. I think we do have cars that can win." (on how he'll spend the next few days) - "I will rest, train, rest and maybe be a bad boy for a little while!"
Scott Goodyear (on how he'll spend the next few days) - "We'll head to the lake for the next couple of days to relax, then will be back with the team for Community Day at the Speedway on Wednesday. I'll run some laps in the car on Carb Day Thursday, and do some final preparations on Friday. Saturday is busy with the driver's meeting, parade and some other functions. Then we'll be here and ready to race on Sunday." Eddie Cheever qualified the #51 Excite@Home Cheever Indy Racing Infiniti at 222.152mph and will start in 25th position.
Scott Goodyear qualified the #52 Thermos® Grill2Go™ Cheever Indy Racing Infiniti at 222.529mph and will start in 16th position.
