CARPENTER LEADS VISION RACING IN PRACTICE WHILE QUALIFYING IS RAINED OUT AGAIN

SPEEDWAY, Indiana -- The first two rounds of qualifying for the 90th running of the Indianapolis 500 have come up wet with no attempts being made, but all was not lost on Mother's Day. Unlike Pole Day and Fast Friday, today was not a complete washout as cars were able to take advantage of a short practice session prior to the return of precipitation and a wet track.

Vision Racing certainly looked like a team eager to the track as drivers Ed Carpenter, Tomas Scheckter and Townsend Bell all secured spots in the top 13. Carpenter led the way in the #20 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone for his teammates as he recorded the seventh quickest speed at 225.262 mph.

Scheckter and the #2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone rounded out the top 10 with a top speed 225.091 mph, but the South African was certain he had more speed to show today, as a crowded track and/or weather prevented him from a clean run.

Bell and his #90 Rock & Republic Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone completed the Vision Racing trio in the 13th spot at 224.779 mph. When qualifying finally gets underway at its new scheduled time on Saturday, May 20, Bell will be the first to make an attempt to put his machine in the field of the 90th running of the Indianapolis 500. At second glance, there is much significance to Bell's qualifying draw, including:

-This is Bell's first Indianapolis 500, qualifying him for JPMorgan Chase Rookie of the Year honors;

-Bell is driving the #90 Rock & Republic Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone in what will be the 90th running of the Indianapolis 500;

-Bell drives for team owner Tony George who is also CEO of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and founder of the Indy Racing League; and

-This is Rock & Republic's first appearance in the Indianapolis 500 as well. They are a new sponsor and partner to Vision Racing and Bell.

The Vision Racing drivers completed 40 laps all together in what was a short, but productive day. The team will return to the race shop on Monday and Tuesday in preparation for the next round of action as track activity resumes at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Wednesday, May 17 with practice. Times are to be announced. Qualifying will now occur on Saturday, May 20 with all 33 starting positions up for grabs, while Bump Day is set for Sunday, May 21.

90th Running of the Indianapolis 500 Practice Results (May 14, 2006) and Quotes:

Ed Carpenter -- #20 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

On practice for the day:

"I think I had a little help on my fastest lap, but we had a good day whether we had a tow or not. The cars have been great since we unloaded them and we really haven't trimmed them out until today. We've known all along that our cars would be good, that it was just a matter of time and we knew the speed was going to be there when we needed it. I wish we could have got qualifying in today as the longer we go it allows other teams to get their setups just right and gives them more time to catch up, but I'm sure we'll make more gains by then as well. I'm just really happy with the whole effort and things are going really well for the team."

Tomas Scheckter -- #2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

On practice for the day:

"The day was good. I've got to give credit to the team and take my hat off to them. They've worked hard getting three cars out here and they've done a great job, giving us three good cars. This is a team that has come a long way and I think there is a lot of good chemistry between us. Me, Ed and Townsend are definitely coming along and I just think this team has gone from one level to the next and each day it keeps improving. The cars are certainly good and we are ready for qualifying."

Townsend Bell-- #90Rock & Republic Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

On practice for the day:

"The car felt really good and I'm pretty happy with it. We'll work with it a little more this week and see what we can do in qualifying. In spite of the conditions, the car was no different at all and I think that is a testament to the how good this facility is and how well they maintain the racing surface. It is very consistent and I'm impressed that it can rain for two and half days straight and we can still go out and run flat out."
