Team Menard completes final day of practice before Indy Pole Day.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 9, 2003) -- Team Menard's Jaques Lazier completed 40 laps in the No. 2 John's Manville Dallara/Chevy/Firestone on the final day of practice before Pole Day for the Indianapolis 500. On a hot and muggy day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Lazier was 18th fastest at 39.6260 seconds, 227.1240 mph.
"It went very well today," Lazier said. "We backed up our quickest time of the month, a 227.1 (mph). We are happy with that. A lot of the other guys were running in the 224, 225 range. The only problem we have is where we drew. We're going to have to wait and see how everything goes with that. Our draw will put us right in the heat of the day. At that point you loose so much grip and so much speed that you just have to pull out of line and wait until the end of the day."
Pole qualifying for the 87th running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for May 10, with the race set for May 25. The race will be televised live on ABC and by the Indy Racing Radio Network. Live timing and scoring of all on-track activity can be found on www.indyracing.com.
