Sharp Sixth Quickest on the Charts Heading into Pole Day

Weather: At the start of practice, 12:00 pm, 63º F under sunny skies with northwest winds at 13 mph. At 2:00 pm, temperatures increasing to 66º F under partly cloudy skies with west-northwest winds at 8 mph. Temperatures rise to 67º F at 4:00 pm with 13 mph winds out of the west. At the start of Happy Hour (5:00 pm), overcast skies and 65º F with 7 mph west-northwest winds. Light moisture reported at 5:30 pm.

Practice Summary: Sharp took to the track for the start of practice at 12:00 pm. An hour into the session, Sharp was shown sixth quickest after 36 laps with a top speed of 223.758 mph. The team returned to the garage at 2:00 pm for changes. At that stage, Sharp had completed 60 laps and was shown in P7 based on his earlier lap. The team returned to pit lane at 3:45 pm. Sharp took to the track in qualifying trim, turning a lap of 225.560 mph to claim fourth on the speed charts at that stage. After brief runs at 5:10 pm - just prior to a long yellow for an accident -- and 5:50 pm, the team returned to the garage five minutes before the checkered flag.

"We had a good day. We continued to work on the race setup, and I think that went pretty well. We got into qualifying mode and ran some pretty good speeds right out of the box. I think we still have some more in it. Tomorrow morning should be fun."
