Richie Hearn qualifies 20th for Indy 500

INDIANAPOLIS -- Richie Hearn qualified the Meijer/Coca-Cola Panoz-Chevrolet 20th Sunday for the Indianapolis 500 with a four-lap average speed of 222.707 mph.

"I don't know where the speed went," said Hearn, who finished third here in 1996 and sixth in 2002. "The Meijer car handled good; we're just not fast by ourselves. It's disappointing because Meijer and Coca-Cola gave us a great opportunity to run the whole month. I wish we had gotten out Friday (rain) because maybe that would have given us a chance to make the car better. The speed just wasn't there. We've been faster (in practice) on full (fuel) tanks. We spent most of our time (in practice) on race setups so I know we'll have a good car for the race."

Tony Kanaan is on the pole with a speed of 227.566 mph.

Practice resumes Wednesday and qualifying continues next Saturday and Sunday. The 89th Indy 500 is Sunday, May 29.
