INDIANAPOLIS -- Robby Gordon accepted a four-lap, 10-mile qualifying speed average of 216.522 mph in Saturday rain-delayed qualifying for the 88th Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Driving his self-owned Meijer/Coca-Cola Dallara-Chevrolet, Gordon turned laps of 217.101 mph, 216.969 mph, 216.600 mph and 215.426 mph.

"I'm very disappointed," said Gordon, who left immediately after his qualifying run for an approximately 60 minutes flight on a Citation 10 private jet for Saturday night's NASCAR Cup Chevy American Revolution 400 at Richmond, Va., where he qualified sixth Friday afternoon in the Cingular Wireless Chevy. "I thought we'd run better than that. We didn't."

"The car got really tight. I just couldn't hold it (throttle) open in turn one. This will probably be our worst Indianapolis 500 starting spot and that's disappointing. The track (conditions) obviously isn't as fast as we thought. If we didn't have to leave (for Richmond), we would have waved it (qualifying attempt) off, for sure. We couldn't do that because of the circumstances."

"I don't think we lost anything to our competitors by me not being here the last two days (in Richmond), because of the rain here (Indy), the other teams didn't get that much track time."

"I'm already thinking about what we need to do for race setup. I think we'll have a good car for the race and that's what's important."
