INDIANAPOLIS -- Robby Gordon's Tuesday Indianapolis 500 practice ended at 2 p.m. local time -- four hours before the track closed -- as he departed the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to fly to North Carolina for a NASCAR Cup test session at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte. On May 30, Gordon plans to do the "Double" for the third consecutive year, driving his own Meijer/Coca-Cola Dallara-Chevrolet in the 88th Indy 500 and then the Richard Childress Racing Cingular Wireless Chevy in that evening's Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte.

After a practice accident at Indy late Monday afternoon, Gordon drove his backup Meijer car Tuesday. In heat-of-the-day conditions, he went 214.149 mph. Gordon will return to Indy Wednesday morning and practice all day in the backup car. Gordon said both his primary and backup cars will be ready Saturday morning, for a practice session, before qualifying. After his qualifying run at Indy, Gordon will return to Richmond, Va., for that evening's NASCAR Cup Chevrolet American Revolution 400.

"We're just getting started with this (backup) car," Gordon said Tuesday. "We have more work to do in terms of chassis set-up. On the primary car, some left-side suspension pieces we want won't be here for a couple of days, but we'll have both cars ready to go Saturday."
