INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Panther Racing's Chevrolets showed how much speed they'll have on Sunday for the Indianapolis 500 during Carb Day practice. Both Tomas Scheckter and Tomas Enge were well within the Top Ten on the speed chart at the close of the one-hour practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Scheckter posted a fast lap of 224.646 mph Friday, which was the 5th fastest overall time during Carb Day Practice. Scheckter's Pennzoil Panther Chevy turned a total of 12 laps. Tomas Enge was as quick as he's been all month during the practice session, and his fastest lap of 224.368 mph was the 7th quickest time of the day.
Buddy Lazier's Byrd Brothers/Jiffy Lube #95 was involved in an accident during a warm-up lap Friday. Something broke near the rear of Lazier's Chevrolet as he entered the fourth turn and he made contact with the outside retaining wall. There was damage to the right side of his #95, but the car will be prepared and ready for the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday. Lazier will start 9th.

"Carb Day is always good fun for the fans and it's great for us to get out here and do a final check on our race setup. I think we've got an amazing racecar, and Chevrolet has got a great shot to win this thing. It's a long race and there are a lot of things that can happen, but the way things went today, I have a feeling there's going to be a Pennzoil Platinum car at the front of this field."
Tomas Enge #2 RockStar Panther Racing
"We made our last adjustments prior to this practice and did plenty of analysis in the last three weeks. It really seems to be working very well, and the car is very strong. After a whole month of learning this place and all the track conditions, I feel like I'm prepared and I'm proud to be the first Czech driver in this race."
Buddy Lazier #95 Byrd Brothers/Panther Racing
"I was just warming up when the accident happened. I was entering (turn) four and all of a sudden I heard a big snap and the car took off on me. The back end was dragging on the car, so we're not sure what happened. It's disappointing. The good thing is I know I'm with a great team and this car will be ready. We needed to get some laps today, but I know we will be ready to go when the race starts on Sunday."
