Rain washes out first day qualifying at Indianapolis.

Thunderstorms and threatening weather forced Indy Racing League officials to postpone Saturday's planned pole-day qualifying activities at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The first of at least three separate bands of thunderstorms hit the Indianapolis area at approximately 10:30 a.m. local time, just as the final morning practice session concluded. More showers and the threat of additional severe weather led IRL officials to cancel all remaining track activities shortly after noon.

In the brief morning practice session, Honda-powered Robby Gordon continued his dominance or the field, posting the fastest speed of the month at just over 233 mph.

In the qualifying draw held Friday night, Greg Ray drew the lowest number of the eight Honda-powered drivers expected to run this weekend, and will start Sunday as the sixth qualifier. Kenny Brack, Dan Wheldon and Roger Yasukawa also drew "early" numbers, while Michael Andretti and Tony Kanaan will be among the last to make their qualifying runs.

Weather permitting, action will begin Sunday with practice at 10 a.m. EST, followed by pole qualifying from noon - 6 p.m., with television coverage on ESPN 2.
