Team Target ready for Indy 500
Preparations for the 87th running of the Indy 500 is complete for Team Target. Drivers Scott Dixon and Tomas Scheckter made their final laps on the 2.5-mile superspeedway today at the annual Carb Day festivities. On the day, Dixon's lap of 227.714 mph was good enough for 5th overall. The Kiwi set the fastest lap of the month last Saturday with a lap of 233.236 mph. Dixon is ready to participate in the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing".
"The car was pretty good today," Dixon said. "We just wanted to go out and get everything on the car checked out for the race. It's a consistent car and I think that's what we'll need for the race. We only did about 10 or 12 flying laps out there. It's been a great month for us, but now I'm ready to get the race on. Team Target has been awesome this month and I think that I need to reward them with a victory on Sunday."
Teammate Tomas Scheckter, who led 85 laps in last year's Indy 500, made final adjustments on his #10 Target machine today. The South African feels that his team has a great opportunity to take home a victory on Sunday.
"I'm happy with our day," said Scheckter. "We tried some different things out there and learned quite a bit in a short amount of time. The car has been good in race trim this month and I'm very antsy to get this race started. I think that we are in pretty good shape for the race. There's a lot of good competition out there, but I think that we have as good a chance as anyone."
Team Target has led a lap at the Indy 500 each of the past 3 years. The 2000 Indy 500 Winners have also led more laps (217) in the last 3 years than any other team. The 87th running of the Indy 500 is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
