Red Bull Cheever Racing Ready to Take Off
Speedway, IN (May 22, 2004) -- Red Bull Cheever Racing continued to fine tune their race setup today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With no on-track activity scheduled for the next four days, teams took advantage of today's practice session.
Both Red Bull Cheever Racing's American drivers focused on running their cars in traffic. Alex Barron drove his Chevy-powered No. 51T car with a fast lap of 216.062 mph, while his teammate Ed Carpenter lapped the track at 215.703mph.
After today's practice run, both drivers felt optimistic about their cars in anticipation of the 88th running of the Indianapolis 500.
"We ran some laps in this morning's session but decided to come back into the garages and make some changes," Barron said. "In the afternoon my car was running really solid, so I'm happy with the progress we made."
Carpenter, 2003 Menards Infiniti Pro Series Freedom 100 winner, turned the second most laps today recording 112 laps.
"It was a good day today," Carpenter said. "We finished up everything we needed to get done. I'm really happy with the way the car is headed going into the race."
Team owner Eddie Cheever Jr. was confident with his team's performance.
"The entire team has really bounced back after Alex's incident in qualifying and have been working long hard hours to put together the best cars possible," said Cheever. "We had an excellent day today. I'm really looking forward to the race."
The next several days Indy Racing League IndyCar Series drivers will relax and get ready for the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing".
"I plan on relaxing and getting rested up for the race," rookie Carpenter said. "I'll do some light training at the gym and get back into a routine for a couple days."
