OVERALL: The team began the day running nine laps in the spare car at approx. 11:30 a.m. CST in order to make an installation check. After nine laps they had set the 11th fastest time of the day in the No. 36T car. At 12:50 p.m. they team ran the primary car but after only eight laps they decided to make a change to the setup and returned to their garage. At 2:15 they returned to the track and ran 37 laps before the maximum suggested mileage on the Honda HI4R Indy V-8 was reached. At approx. 5:25 p.m. the team returned to the track for the final run of the day and in the No. 36T race car. They ran 18 laps but did not better the time they set from the nine laps on their first run of the day.
Bruno Junqueira, No. 36 PacifiCare/Secure Horizons Honda/G-Force/Firestone: "It was okay today. We made some long runs today on full tanks to work on the race setup. Yesterday we found a good race setup but we today we didn't improve. Tomorrow we are going to try to find some speed in the car."
* FAST FACTS: Will be his third race here and first with NHR at this track. Started 20th and finished fifth in his Indy 500 debut with Ganassi Racing in 2001. Won the pole position in 2002 and led the first 32 laps of the race before his engine failed. Retired in 31st place.
* NEWMAN/HAAS RACING FACTS: The 2004 race will mark the 14th for NHR in the Indy 500 and first since 1995. Prior to 2004, the team prepared a total of 20 entries for drivers such as Mario and Michael Andretti, Nigel Mansell and Paul Tracy. NHR's highest finishes in the Indy 500 were second with Mario Andretti in 1985 and Michael Andretti in 1991 and third with Nigel Mansell in his first attempt in 1993...NHR drivers have led a combined total of 773 laps on the famed 2.5-mile Superspeedway (Mario Andretti - 402; Michael Andretti - 337; Nigel Mansell - 34)...Mario Andretti brought the team it's highest start in the event when he won the POLE POSITION in 1987.
