Luyendyk fastest in final day qualifying.
Indianapolis: Two-time Indianapolis 500 champion Arie Luyendyk was the fastest final day qualifier at 228.848 in his #55 Meijer/G-Force/Chevrolet/Firestone entry for Treadway-Hubbard Racing. As a second day qualifier, he will start 24th in the 86th running of the Indianapolis 500. This is Luyendyk's 17th Indianapolis 500 start.
"The car felt really good today," said Luyendyk. "We were quick in the morning practice and knew we had plenty of speed to make the race. Tim Wardrop, my engineer, and the crew did a great job with the car this week. We had some issues last weekend in qualifying that were out of our control or we would have been in the show last week and starting toward the front. Now we need to be ready for the race. We'll just take our time since we're staring in the back and work our way to front and see what happens."
Luyendyk waived off two attempts in the 227's last Saturday and a third was aborted after a faulty tire pressure sensor reading. Luyendyk was the first to qualify in Sunday's final day of qualifications.
